Fourth and fifth grade students at Pittsburgh Phillips K-5 were treated to a special visit from children's author Linda Sue Park on Friday, Oct. 3.
Ms. Park captured the children's attention with stories of her childhood and how she became interested in writing. She shared her experience with the writing process. Although she drew moans and groans from some of the children, she illustrated a very important point about perseverance and the revision process when she shared that she has re-written her books up to 36 times before getting them published.
She took time to answer the children's questions and sign copies of one of her books for the children.
Ms. Park is the author of several children's books, including 2002 Newbery Medal Winner A Single Shard. Her latest book is called Keeping Score.
The visit was made possible by a partnership with Pittsburgh Arts and Lectures, which also donated a copy of A Single Shard for every fourth and fifth grader at Phillips.
