Carrick will dedicate its new Sprout Fund mural on Sunday, Sept. 21

September 16, 2008

The Carrick Mural is finally finished and the dedication ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 21 from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Vern's Electric and the hall of Concord Presbyterian Church at 1907 Brownsville Road.

The dedication ceremony will include guest speakers, free food, music and games for children. Since Carrick was named after Carrick-on-Suir, Ireland, good luck Irish Shamrock seeds will be given away to the first hundred guests. Artist Phil Seth will also officially name the mural.

The dedication will include words from Pastor John Wiebe of Concord Presbyterian Church, the Sprout Fund, Phil Seth, and community leaders. Food and beverages will be provided by McGinnis Sisters of Brentwood and Carrick Beer for Less. In addition more than 30 dozen of cookies will be supplied by the students of Carrick High School.

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire will be present with a fire truck to teach everyone about fire safety. The Carnegie Library of Carrick Library is providing crayons for children to create their own coloring books about nature and conservation started by our most famous citizen, John M. Phillips, and children and adults alike will have an opportunity to make their own family tree.

Artist Phil Seth, residents involved in the mural process, and the Carrick-Overbrook Historical Society will be present to discuss the historical aspects of the mural. In addition, the dozens of Carrick businesses that donated meals to the artist during the entire period of production will be listed and officially thanked at the dedication.

Carrick community organizations are encouraged to come and bring their own literature, pamphlets, etc. for the "Carrick Community Table" where residents can find out about ways to get involved and make positive contributions to the neighborhood. Contact Natalia Rudiak at nrudiak@gmail.com or 412-892-9113 with any questions. All are welcome.
