Sixty new trees are coming to Carrick through the mayor's Neighborhood Business District Improvement Initiative.
Carrick will also host a Tree Tenders Course where for a donation of $40 (multiple members from one household will have a discount) a participant will learn about tree tending, receive dinner each evening during the course, and receive a certificate, a T-shirt and a pair of clippers. The dates for the course are Tuesdays on July 29, August 5 and August 12 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.. The venue is yet to be confirmed.
Participants will be committed to maintaining the trees that are planted in the community.
Mayor's office, Pittsburgh Urban Forest, Friends of the Pittsburgh Urban Forest and Carrick Community Council are urging all property owners/ businesses on Brownsville Road to request a tree be planted in front of their property. Carrick has many areas where a tree was planted and has either failed or been abused and they can be replaced.
Call or email Alice Vaday at 412-885-3293 or firstname.lastname@example.org to get more information and the form needed to request a tree. The city will only plant trees where the owner will allow.
Ms. Vaday will also be going door to door in the coming weeks to speak to property owners to gage interest in the program.
