Brashear offering summer programs for local kids in Allentown and South Side

June 10, 2008

As the end of the school year approaches the Brashear Association is preparing to begin summer programming for local kids, Allentown Extended Day camp and Discover South Side.

Brashear's Allentown Extended Day camp will take place in Allentown following Grandview Elementary summer school, and run the length of summer school from June 23-July 18. Students will meet Mondays through Fridays from noon to 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 730 Excelsior Street.

The Allentown Extended Day camp consists of four weeks of creative exploration, as well as team building and leadership activities. Children will have the opportunity to receive tutoring, develop leadership skills, and participate in other fun, hands on activities. Children entering grades 2-5 are welcome to enroll. The camp is open to all residents of the Allentown neighborhood.

Discover South Side will begin on July 21 and runs through August 1, Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Discover South Side is a camp of daily adventures in Pittsburgh's South Side. Children will take walking trips to various businesses and cool places in the community.

Camp will include interactive tours and fun, engaging activities. Discover South Side will also include a daily lunch at Ormsby Recreation Center. The camp is designed for students entering grades 2-5 and open to any Pittsburgh resident.
