The 2008 Pittsburgh Senior Games, sponsored annually by Citiparks SeniorInterests, will be held from June 1-16 at various sites throughout the area.
Age divisions for competing are 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85 and older.
Events include archery, basketball shooting, bocce, bowling, darts, 5-K run, golf (9 holes), horseshoes, Kooshball, pool (8-ball), shuffleboard, table tennis, track and field (casting, Frisbee toss, ½-mile walk, softball throw) and a lawn bowling demonstration.
For the first time the Greenfield Glide 5-K Run on Sunday, June 1 will be part of the senior games. The top three finishers in the 60-and-older age divisions of the Glide will receive Citiparks Senior Games medals along with their 5-K race awards.
The registration fee is $2 and covers the cost of all events except bowling, golf and the 5-K run.
An awards banquet will be held following the competition. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age division. The medals will commemorate “Pittsburgh 250” in honor of the City of Pittsburgh's year-long 250th anniversary and celebration.
The registration deadline is Friday, May 23. Call 412-422-6405 for more information or to register, or visit any of the Citiparks SeniorInterests community centers.
