Boris Weinstein, elections on agenda for Arlington CC

April 29, 2008

Citizens Against Litter founder Boris Weinstein will be the speaker at the Arlington Civic Council (ACC) on Monday, May 5 at 7 p.m.

Mr. Weinstein is known for his charismatic presentation and passion to help Pittsburgh become a clean city. This presentation comes on the cusp of the neighborhood clean up which took place on April 19. More than 75 volunteers participated in the event.

ACC president Teri Cataldo said there was a sincere interest in cleaning up the community and estimated the bags filled at approximately 160. Volunteers from the fourth Grade at the Arlington Elementary School, from the Arlington Gym, neighbors from Berg Street to Spring Street all pitched in to help.

“We know we have a long way to go but if we can get the children to become part of the solution we really have an opportunity to make a difference. The littlest volunteers were 2 and 3 years old. They were armed with gloves and miniature brooms and made a definite impression on passers by. If they can clean we certainly can,” said Ms. Cataldo.

Also scheduled for May 5 is the council's annual election. All prior paid members are welcome to vote and will receive a ballot upon entering the meeting. A slate of officers will be presented to the membership and nominations will also be permitted from the floor with prior consent garnered by the nominator.

“It will be a full agenda with the election, the mother's day luncheon and the annual appreciation dinner coming in June,” concluded Ms. Cataldo.
