Volunteers needed for the Fourth Annual South Side Spring Cleanup

Volunteers are needed for the Fourth Annual Spring Cleanup on the South Side.

Duquesne University's Spiritan Campus Ministry, in a collaboration with on campus partners, the Pennsylvania Resources Council, the South Side Chamber of Commerce, the South Side Local Development Corporation, and other neighborhood partners on the South Side will be holding the cleanup on Saturday, April 19.

Coinciding with this year's Great PA Cleanup, the Fourth Annual Spring Cleanup on the South Side will focus on cleaning up the South Side Flats from 5th Street to 29th Street. Community participants and Duquesne student volunteers will be picking up litter along E. Carson Street and surrounding side streets. Along with the litter pickup, community volunteers will also be removing graffiti from designated properties.

The event will run from 9:15 a.m. to about 2 p.m. All volunteers will meet at the parking lot at 18th Street and E. Carson Street. Volunteers will be provided with a free breakfast and coffee in the morning from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. Coffee and breakfast provided by Caribou Coffee and Bruegger's Bagels.

Clean up activities will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Local restaurants will provide a free lunch at 1 p.m. at the 18th Street and E. Carson Street parking lot. Local band Race the Ghost will be entertaining the crowd and local community organizations will be in attendance. UPMC South Side, Councilman Bruce Kraus, State Representative Harry Readshaw, SSLDC, and Duquesne University are this year's Spring Cleanup sponsors.
