Gabriel Szafranski displays photos at Brashear
A photography exhibit at the Brashear Center will highlight the work of Gabriel Szafranski, a graduate of The Brashear Association's Arts Apprenticeship Program. An opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Wednesday, April 9 from 6-8 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
Mr. Szafranski, a South Side resident, will soon complete his undergraduate studies in photojournalism at Point Park University. He was a participant in the Arts Apprenticeship Program during his middle school years. The exhibit, documenting his views of the South Side, is a benefit show for the association.
According to Mr. Szafranski, it is his way of “saying thanks” for the opportunities provided by the arts education program at Brashear.
The photographs in the exhibit illustrate the many changes, both positive and negative, that the South Side has undergone throughout Mr. Szafranski's life. Brashear's education coordinator, Lisa Donofrio, commented, “Although Gabe is a young resident of the community, he brings a surprisingly mature and balanced vision to his depiction of the community. He does see the neighborhood through the eyes of a journalist, balancing the good with the bad, to create a complex picture of a vital community.”
The exhibit will be on display throughout the month of April 2008 at the Brashear Center, 2005 Sarah Street. For more information, contact Brashear Center at 412-431-2236.
