The third in a series of four workshops titled Pathways to Possibilities will be held on Saturday, March 8 from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p. m. at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, 475 East Waterfront Drive, Homestead.
The Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Mental Retardation, Community College of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Training and Technical Network, Pittsburgh Public Schools and the Allegheny Intermediate Unit are sponsors of this series of free transition-from-high-school-workshops.
The focus of the March 8 workshop is Exploring Employment Opportunities. This workshop is for youth 14 and older with the diagnosis of mental retardation, their families and caregivers and will provide participants an understanding of the available employment and employment training options. Presenters will include representatives from various programs and self-advocates and families who will share their experiences. The workshop will also include an Employment Resource Fair.
While family members and caregivers are attending the workshop, the young people will attend a specially designed breakout session, The Coffee Shop, which will be facilitated by Pennsylvania Youth Leadership Network (PYLN). The PYLN is a team of youth leaders with disabilities from across Pennsylvania who work to encourage self-determination, empowerment, and leadership in high school students and other youth with disabilities.
Pre-registration is recommended. For more information or to register, contact Susan Kennedy at 412-237-6587 or email@example.com.
