South Side resident recognized for excellence

Dr. Stephen T. Newmyer was recently recognized with a Duquesne University Presidential Award for Excellence in Scholarship.

A professor of classics in the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, Mr. Newmyer was acknowledged for his award by Duquesne President Charles J. Dougherty at the University's annual Convocation.

Mr. Newmyer, who began at the University in 1976, teaches courses including Latin, Greek, etymology and classical mythology. He also received the 2007 McAnulty College Award for Excellence in Scholarship.

He sits on the editorial boards for Korot, an Israeli journal on the history of medicine, and Scholia: Studies in Classical Antiquity. He has published four books, nearly 40 scholarly articles in academic journals and nearly 30 book reviews.

Mr. Newmyer is a resident of South Side.
