Directory of clinics now available at Health Dept.

October 23, 2007

The Allegheny County Health Department has updated its directory of local clinics and health centers that serve people with minimal or no health insurance.

“While the directory is intended primarily for social service agencies and other community organizations dealing with the uninsured, individuals also may find it helpful as a guide to health care resources,” said County Health Director Dr. Bruce W. Dixon.

Most of the providers use a sliding fee schedule based on household income and family size for patients without insurance coverage. The fees may be as little as $25 or less and possibly even waived in cases of extreme financial hardship.

In addition to more than 40 local clinics and health centers, the 20-page directory lists resources available to help with prescription drug, dental and transportation needs.

The guide to health care resources for the underinsured and uninsured is available on the Allegheny County Health Department web site, under Timely Topics, at http://www.achd.net or by calling 412-247-7816.
