Spirit of Health coming monthly to the Hilltop
The Spirit of Health van will be coming to the Hilltop once a month with a variety of services to help residents stay healthy. The 31-foot vehicle is a wellness clinic on wheels.
The Spirit of Health offers a convenient and comfortable atmosphere where an individual can meet with one of the healthcare professionals on staff to discuss health concerns Education and counseling for health problems will be followed up by referral to needed services. Screenings will be offered to identify those at risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, depression, and other medical conditions. Individuals can also take advantage of personal counseling and programs geared toward living a healthier lifestyle.
The Spirit of Health project is a faith-based wellness outreach- sponsored and managed by the Sisters of St. Francis of Millvale, Duquesne University School of Pharmacy, and the Mercy Parish Nurse Program (which supports the Hilltop Health Ministries Consortium).
The mission to promote wellness of body, mind, and spirit by direct outreach to people in their own neighborhoods includes traveling to three other sites: Carnegie, Millvale, and Green Meadows. In the South Side Hilltop, the van will be staffed by the parish nurses from Mercy and Hilltop Health Ministries Consortium as well as pharmacists and pharmacy students from Duquesne University.
A number of free health and wellness services will be provided including:

• Bone density screening
• Diabetes education
• Nutrition education
• Weight loss counseling
• Facial skin analysis
• Depression screening
• Smoking cessation program
• Migraine screening
• Chronic pain education
• Child asthma education
• Answers to your medication questions
The Spirit of Health van will be in Allentown at St. John Vianney Parish on Climax St. the last Monday of every month from noon to 4 p.m. The schedule will follow the food pantry distribution schedule Everyone is welcome to come aboard and meet the health team members who will be serving the community.
